Slack Integration

Bring Simple Product into the place your team and customers already talk. Ask the agent questions, capture feedback in a few keystrokes, and let Simple Product listen to customer channels so feedback never gets lost in the scroll.

Set up

  1. In Simple Product, go to Settings → Integrations and click Add to Slack.
  2. Approve the install in Slack. One Slack workspace connects to one Simple Product workspace.
  3. Invite the bot to any channel you want it to work in: /invite @Simple Product

Talk to the agent

The Simple Product agent has the same tools it has everywhere else: it can search and create feedback, cards, docs, releases, and people in your workspace.

  • Direct message: open Simple Product in Slack's sidebar and chat in the Messages tab.
  • @mention in a channel: mention @Simple Product in a thread and it reads the thread for context. For example, "@Simple Product log this thread as feedback from Dana."

Listen for feedback

Turn on listening in a channel where customers talk to you, like a shared customer channel or a #feedback channel. Simple Product picks out messages that are product feedback and saves them to your workspace, attributed to the person who wrote them.

  1. Invite the bot to the channel, then run /sp listen in it.
  2. The bot posts a short notice in the channel so everyone there knows Simple Product is listening for feedback.
  3. Every 10 minutes, Simple Product checks for new messages. Feature requests, bug reports, complaints, and praise are saved as feedback. Casual conversation is ignored.
  4. Each saved message gets a 📝 reaction, so the person who wrote it knows it was heard.

Feedback is matched to a person in Simple Product by their Slack email address, and a new person is created if there isn't a match. Each entry links back to the original Slack message. Turn listening off with /sp unlisten.

Keep a thread updated on a card

Ask Simple Product to follow a card from any Slack thread, and the thread gets an update every time the card changes stage. It's made for customer channels: when a customer reports something, you can keep them posted as it moves, without them needing access to Simple Product.

  1. In the thread, mention the bot: @Simple Product keep this thread updated on card 648. Use the card's number, shown on the card as #648.
  2. Whenever the card moves to another stage, the bot posts a short update in the thread: the card's number and title, and the stage it moved to. When it reaches Done (or Shipped), the update says it's done.
  3. To stop, mention the bot again: @Simple Product stop updating this thread on card 648. Ask what cards is this thread following? to see them all.

Only stage changes are posted, not edits or comments, and the updates don't link into Simple Product. The card's title and stage names are posted as they are, so keep that in mind in customer channels. The same card can be followed from several threads, like an internal channel and the customer's. If the bot is removed from a channel, updates to it stop.

Slash commands

CommandWhat it does
/sp add feedback <text>Save feedback to your workspace.
/sp find feedback <query>Search existing feedback.
/sp listen [channel]Start listening for feedback. Defaults to the current channel.
/sp unlisten [channel]Stop listening. Defaults to the current channel.
/sp listeningList the channels Simple Product is listening to.
/sp whoamiShow which Simple Product workspace and account you're connected as.

What Simple Product can see

  • Only channels the bot has been invited to. Slack enforces this.
  • Listening works only in public channels, and only after someone turns it on with /sp listen. The bot announces itself when it starts.
  • In other channels, the bot reads a thread only when someone @mentions it there.
  • Messages that aren't feedback aren't stored. Only the feedback text, the author, and a link to the message are saved.
  • When a thread follows a card, Simple Product stores only which thread to post to. Card updates it posts there are visible to everyone in the channel, including guests and people from other companies in shared channels.
